KRTS Fundraiser and Open House

KRTS, Marfa Public Radio, at 93.5 FM, launches it's second, on-air Fund Drive this Friday, October 17; it will last one week, ending Friday October 24.

The station encourages all listeners to become members during this week. There will be familiar voices, new programs, special prizes, and on-air excitement. Call 800-903-KRTS.

Based in Marfa, KRTS is the regional radio station for the Transpecos, covering a wide range. This local non-profit 501(c)3 is supported by area contributions - both individual members and business underwriters. The station relies on the daily support of dozens of volunteers. KRTS has a Spring and Fall Fund Drive. It's first-ever Fund Drive, the Spring Drive, was a great success; the station added more than 400 members: new and renewing. Through the bi-annual fund drives, members pay for programming from NPR, Radio Bilingue and other news providers and cover the costs of daily operations.

The station will host an Open House on Friday evening, October 17, the first day of the Drive, at 7-9 PM. The public is invited to tour the station, visit with volunteers, and enjoy food, drink, and music.

Visitors BEWARE or be aware. On our recent trip down I-10 through Van Horn we decide to visit a Marfa art exhibit we had read about on the internet which is a Prada store front display in the middle of nowhere so we detoured down Hwy 90 for a short drive, after finding the exhibit and taking our pics we headed back to I-10 at this time we noticed several marked and unmarked police cars that seemed to not have paid us any attention but once we were back on I-10 we were pulled over by at least 8 officers or more at which time we were asked about our trip down Hwy 90 and if we were there to pick up drugs, we were told this is a major drug route and nothing but trouble travels down that highway. So after being detained for 1 hour and receiving TWO tickets for alleged speeding we were released so if you're going to Marfa to see Prada or the Marfa lights, the only lights you will see are RED and BLUE!
